Job Announcement For Language Assistant

A Language Assistant is sought for the EU Twinning Project TR-10 IB JH 04 under the IPA Programme: Strengthening Witness Protection Capacities between Turkey and Germany for 18 months. The main task of the Language Assistant is to support the RTA in organizational, administrative and office matters, to perform translation and interpretation tasks and to provide general support to the RTA and other foreign experts participating in the project.

Job Description:

Under the management of the Resident Twinning Adviser (RTA), where separate arrangements for commercial translation or interpretation have not been made, the Language Assistant is expected to carry out the following tasks:

  1. Interpreting in meetings, seminars, workshops, study visits and other oral conversations from German and English to Turkish and vice versa;
  2. Translating documents, regulations, reports, training materials, information materials and other written materials from German and English to Turkish and vice versa;
  3. Drafting and translating of written materials with relation to the project in Turkish, English, German;
  4. Performing necessary office management tasks including filing
  5. Assisting the RTA, RTA-Counterpart, the short term experts, other foreign specialists involved in the project and Turkish twinning project team in matters related to language problems or other problems due to being and working in a foreign country
  6. Assisting to the RTA and Turkish twinning project team in the dissemination of information on the Project through the creation of working materials for meetings, seminars and workshops (e.g. leaflets, flyers, slides, handouts, etc);
  7. Developing and maintaining close working contacts and relationships with relevant sides involved in the Project, especially to the Turkish Officals and German Project management
  8. Supporting the RTA and Turkish twinning project team in coordination with the RTA assistant on other aspects of his daily work including assistance in the following tasks:

  • Organising meetings, training workshops and other project related-events and producing minutes;
  • Drafting and editing the terms of reference, quarterly and any other relevant documents;
  • Assisting the RTA and Turkish twinning project team in planning and interpretation of the visits of the experts and participants (travel, accommodation, residence and work in Turkey and european countries)

9.    Stand in for Resident Twinning Adviser Assistant in his/her absence.

This list is not exclusive of other tasks.

Qualifications

Applicants shall have the following qualifications:

  1. Preferably University degree from Faculty of Translation and Interpreting in English
  2. Professional fluency in oral and written Turkish, German and English
  3. Extensive experience in translation and/or interpretation activities.
  4. Previous experience in Twinning-Projects will be an advantage
  5. Good knowledge of legal and EU terminology
  6. Good computer skills (MS Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, Power point, Internet),
  7. Organizational and analytical skills and initiative,
  8. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
  9. Flexibility and maturity of judgment,
  10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations and to work in a team
  11. Patience, flexibility and availability to travel /It is foreseen that Language Assistant would participate in study visits during the project)

Remuneration

The salary (2.000,00 €/month) will be paid according to the Twinning Contract. Service contract will be signed for 18 months.

A Resident Twinning Adviser Assistant (RTAA) is sought for the EU Twinning Project TR-10 IB JH 04 under the IPA Programme: Strengthening Witness Protection Capacities between Turkey and Germany for 18 months. Job Description:

Under the management of the Resident Twinning Adviser (RTA), the RTA Assistant is expected to carry out the following tasks:

  1. General support to the RTA in terms of administrative assistance, office management, record keeping, correspondence (e.g. answering phone calls, filing, photocopying, sending and receiving emails/faxes, etc.);
  2. Assisting the RTA, his counterpart, the short term experts, and other foreign specialists involved in the project in matters related to language problems or other problems due to being and working in a foreign country;
  3. Developing and maintaining close working contacts and relationships with Turkish officials involved in the Twinning-Project, contacts at other beneficiary organizations, MS and BC Project Leader;
  4. Supporting the RTA in the implementation of the work plan of the Twinning-Project with the following tasks:

 

  • Providing relevant information and documents
  • Helping to arrange contacts or meetings
  • Attending meetings, drafting and disseminating minutes of the meeting
  • Updating the project time schedule and checking the availability of experts;
  • Elaborating programs for short-term experts and other foreign specialists with relation to the project;
  • Organising expert missions, study visits, trainings, meetings/seminars/workshops, and creating working materials for such events (e.g. slides, handouts);

  • Assisting the RTA in identifying, contracting and monitoring translation and interpretation services
  • Assisting the RTA in planning the visits of short term experts, particularly with regard to arrangements for travel, accommodation/hotel booking and any other issues arising from residence and working in Turkey.
  • Assisting in the preparation of contractual/financial information (timesheets, mission certificates, side letters, etc) and maintaining contacts with the CFCU Project Manager on the project as well as a close cooperation to the project management in Germany
  • Drafting and editing the Terms of Reference of missions, quarterly reports and any other relevant documents.

5.     Supporting the  RTA in coordination with the  RTA Language Assistant for providing satisfactory
English/Turkish (and German/Turkish) interpretation and translation by:

  • Interpreting in meetings and other oral conversations from English/German to Turkish and vice versa;
  • Translating documents, regulations, training materials, information materials and other written materials from English/German to Turkish and vice versa;
  • Drafting of written materials with relation to the project in Turkish, English and German and translating whenever needed.

6.     Standing in for Language Assistant in his/her absence.

Qualifications

Applicants shall have the following qualifications:

  1. University degree or master degree, preferably in the field of law
  2. Previous experience in project implementation and management, especially in Twinning-Projects, will be an advantage,
  3. Fluent speaking and written communications skills in Turkish, German and English languages.
  4. Familiarity with law and EU terminology in English and Turkish
  5. Good computer skills (MS Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, Power Point),
  6. Organizational and analytical skills,
  7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
